workday

6' tide at day break, the waves would look ok but they just kept rolling to shorebreak. Stayed at work all day instead.

Old man

Took Dad back up the hill to check his house. He`s still pretty weak but has come a long way from the hospital bed. He`s just one of the things I have to be thankful for.

Happy Thanksgiving

This morning I was at the pier and this afternoon I`m with my Dad in the Sierra`s. I have so much to be thankful for, it`s silly. Lord forgive me for taking so much for granted.

weakness

not much out there today, I had a loose schedule with time to surf but I turned and walked away in favor of something more productive.

non-participant

New swell in the water but the shape wasn`t good. There were lots of folks giving it a try but I chose to just sit and watch.

Recession relief

No work to do again today, very slow this week. At least there was some surf to fill the downtime, must be a lot of under-employment because there were lots of us out there this morning.

This is the way the song should be sung...

Work day

Sunny and clear, east wind was cold and the surf was fighting too much tide. It`s a good day to get some work done

Monday in Maui

hightide peelers

There was some surf this morning, not as good as that first shot looks, but still fun. High tide required a bigger board and lot`s of the longboard crew from Blackies were on it.Beautiful warm day to get in the water.

Maui one day trip

My wife was working a Maui layover trip and asked me to go. Free flight and hotel so how do you say no to that? One day is better than nothing, poolside pina colada with a book in the sun. Back to work today after the red-eye home.

Saturday 11-14

There was a fat high tide and not much push to the windswell so the surf wasn`t very compelling. It felt good to sit on the sea wall and feel the sun warm my back, while taking in the scene that is the pier parking lot on a sunny Saturday morning.

Road trip

Left at dawn in a cold fog, endured early morning traffic through the westside of America`s second largest city and finally spilled down onto the agricultural plain of Ventura co.As I drove I wondered if it was worth the hassle to drive 120 miles for surf when there was a perfectly acceptable swell at home ,to blow off a days work and spend over 2 hours in the car chasing swell, but as C-street came into view and I could see clean lines sweeping down the point I was glad to make the journey. Solimar was breaking, shifty peaks at Seacliff, consistent headhighs corkscrewed thier way through the pier at Mussel shoals, and finally I could see whitewater at Indicators. Big smile as I drove.
The crowd was light-medium and spread all through the point, I settled in at the rivermouth and tried to catch the lines that didn`t connect from outside. I did`nt get very many and the ones I got weren`t the best but I was still happy just to be out there. I told myself that this winter I`d try to actually make an effort to get out and surf some of the spots I rarely get to, Blacks, Sunset Cliffs, Ventura and SB breaks. Today at least I got off my butt and went, and that made for one satisfying day.
