Sunny saturday

Another small day, southside seems to be the only spot, with stand-ups and longboarders contesting for the small set waves.I walked the beach with my coffee and soaked up the morning sun, nice day to be outside

20 knots offshore

Strong gusts offshore today, the weak little swell had a hard time even trying to throw against it.78 degrees on the beach made the water look inviting but there just wasn`t enough energy to get me out there. Made for a nice lunch break at the beach.

cool and crisp

Cold offshores and bright sunshine made for a beautiful morning, the winds stood the faces up and made things look better than it really was. Not a lot of punch today. I`m sick the last few days so chose to pass this AM

airborne

Newport local photog Tom Cozad took to the air last Monday to do an amazing airborn surf check and his shots are on the Surfline site. Check them out. Who wouldn`t like to buzz all the points and reefs of So Cal from a small plane? make it a seaplane so you could land and catch a few sets yourself!

grainy

It`s gray and rainy this morning. AS usual there are guys out at Blackies, but not to many. The high tide is way up but it might get better later on.I enjoyed my hot coffee at the pier and went home to my waking family. Life`s good.

still rolling

Plenty of surf out there still but I didn`t try to get out. I`ve not been paying enough attention to the job lately and I`m starting to feel the financial repercussions. Anything done to excess can cause harm, and that even applies to something as fun as surfing

evening glass

Didn`t get out during the work day but was pleased to see it still smooth glass this afternoon.I surfed poorly, bad wave choices, but the water felt great and the scenery was nice

still tiny

Still very small ,this was the wave of the day while I watched. Hot at the beach again, the water is still cold. Good surf is on it`s way soon.

January warmth

The surf is still small but I just had to go out when it was 68 degrees at 7am, the water is still cold at 54. Offshores held the waves up a bit and the random chest high sets were fun. Surfed an hour till the high tide started to swamp things.

Mini point break

Two guys out at dawn, riding micro tubes into the river mouth, clear and 65 degrees at daybreak.

I checked it after the high tide and still tiny, a flotilla of "sweepers" were the only guys able to catch waves

Sunday1-11

The 7' high tide turned our local beachbreak into a left point this morning, very small waves but still a small group of guys out to give it a try. Beautiful and warm this morning

I liked this license plate on the car parked in front of me.

frosty sunrise

The cold temps are back, 35 degrees as I left the house. There were a dozen hardy souls out at sunrise, the SSW swell was kind of walled but had some happy endings here and there. I headed off to the job but will surf mid-tide when it warms up a bit.

stronger pulse

Finally we saw signs of life today. I checked it out on the way to church and was pleased, definitely goig to surf after early service. I started to paddle out at my usual spot but it looked like mainly closeouts, so whitewatered in and drove to HB instead. Not as much juice but better shape, when I caught my first head-high Sano-esque left I knew I`d chosen well. Good to surf on a suny Sunday.

winter

This morning was cold and drizzly, with still no swell to ride. I can`t remember a flat spell like this in a long time. The forecasters say maybe next week, with warmer temps as well. Looking forward to it, as I need the exercise badly.
